The Timberwolves took Shannon out of Illinois with the 27th pick in the first round of the draft last week after making a trade to obtain the eighth pick and get Rob Dillingham from Kentucky.
A jury in Douglas County spent less than two hours deliberating the verdict.
Illinois has the No. 3 seed in the East Region in the NCAA Tournament.

A federal judge in Springfield is promising an “expedient” ruling in Illini basketball star Terrence Shannon Junior’s request to undo his suspension, after being charged with rape. The school suspended Shannon from “all team activities, effective immediately,” a day after the Douglas (Kansas) County District Attorney issued a warrant for his arrest. The alleged incident happened when he attended the Illini’s football game at Kansas on Sept. 8.
