From the Champaign County Clerk and Sheriff to U.S. Senate and House seats, several local and statewide races are on the ballot in Illinois’ Nov. 3 midterm election.
Illinois Public Media is covering the candidates and ballot questions ahead of the election to give you accurate information and context before you head to the polls. Here is what you need to know.

Early Voting Information
Early voting is available starting Sept. 24 at the Bennett Administrative Center in Urbana.

Champaign County Clerk and Recorder
Incumbent clerk Aaron Ammons is running for a third term. Republican Alan Anderson is challenging him for the role.

Champaign County Sheriff
Incumbent Sheriff Dustin Heuerman is running for reelection. His challenger is Republican Gregory Worrell.
IL-13 Congressional District
Incumbent Democratic Rep. Nikki Budzinski is seeking reelection. The Republican challenging her is Jeff Wilson, a former Champaign County board member.
IL-02 Congressional District
Incumbent Democratic Rep. Robin Kelly vacated her seat to run for U.S. Senate.
Democrat Donna Miller and Republican Mike Noack are running to succeed her.
Other local election items
In Rantoul, voters will decide whether the village should allows cannabis shops to operate in town — and whether they want to return to electing trustees to at-large seats instead of districts.
The Mahomet-Seymour and Champaign school districts will weigh in on two ballot questions asking for school renovations — without raising property taxes.
In Cunningham Township and Champaign Township, voters will answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the following advisory question: “Shall the State of Illinois repeal amendments to the Illinois Pension Code that penalize American businesses for boycotting the State of Israel?”
Statewide Races
U.S. Senate
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is retiring at the end of his term this year.
Democratic Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton is facing Republican Don Tracy, a former chair of the Illinois Republican Party.
The 21st Show has interviewed Tracy but has not been able to set up a time with Stratton yet.
Governor
Illinois’ incumbent governor, Democrat JB Pritzker, is seeking a third term in office. His opponent is Republican Darren Bailey, who also ran for governor against Pritzker in 2022.
