URBANA – The National Weather Service confirms there were seven tornado touchdowns in Central Illinois on Tuesday.
Meteorologists say there were three touchdowns in Macon County, two more in Sangamon County, one in Logan County, and one southeast of Gibson City in Ford County.
After surveying all of the damage sites, it was determined that a tornado with peak winds of 110 miles per hour damaged a barn and tossed the remains of a grain bin across US-51 southwest of Maroa.
A different tornado with 90-mile-per-hour winds damaged a building in Decatur.
No one was injured in the storm.
A total of 7 tornadoes (6 in our area, 1 in @NWSChicago's area) were confirmed in IL on Jan 3. This was the most number of January tornadoes to occur in an event in the state of IL since January 7, 1989 when 8 tornadoes occurred.

Our survey team has determined that 6 tornadoes occurred on January 3. There were 2 EF-1's & 1 EF-0. The other 3 tornadoes were observed by trained spotters, but no damage occurred.
