UPDATE: Newton County sheriff’s deputy not expected to survive after being shot in line of duty

 

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. — A Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy will not survive after being shot in the line of duty earlier this month. 

Corporal Brandon Schreiber was shot by a suspect on September 1 while assisting the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois during a police chase that ended in Sheldon, according to Illinois State Police

The suspect identified as Andrew Roselius, 37 of Clifton, Ill. exited his vehicle and there was an exchange of gunfire. During the exchange, both Roselius and Schreiber were struck. Roselius was
pronounced deceased on scene, ISP said.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post update about Schreiber’s condition that “Despite the tremendous and heroic efforts of his medical team, we have been informed he will not survive his injuries.”

Schreiber is also an organ donor, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. He has been cared for at the Carle Trauma Center in Urbana.

The sheriff’s office did not provide any further details, but stated that another update will be provided later this week.
