WEATHER ALERT: Severe storms expected late this afternoon and evening

Tornado Watch for central Illinois until 8pm

Meteorologists are forecasting two rounds of strong to severe storms crossing Central Illinois on Tuesday.  Much of central Illinois has been placed under a Tornado Watch until Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. This story will be updated with new postings on X (formerly known as Twitter) from IPM meteorologist Andrew Pritchard and NWS Central Illinois.

Andrew’s 6:00 a.m. forecast: For today, partly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms and a high of 80 degrees. There’s a slight risk a few storms could become severe this morning or early afternoon. South wind 10 to 15 mph.

Urbana Mayor Marlin confirms she won’t seek third term

Democrat Diane Marlin is confirming what she has been talking about for more than a year: she’ll step down as Urbana mayor when her current term ends next spring.

“After 8 years on City Council and 8 years as mayor, 16 in city government, is a good long run,” Marlin said in an interview with Illinois Public Media.
