The Trump administration has signaled a government shutdown could lead to mass firings. LaHood said he hopes it doesn’t come to that, but granted that would be the executive branch’s discretion.

U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood is hailing this week’s announcement of a trade agreement with the European Union and recent ones with Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Japan as the Trump administration continues to reshape the global economy.

Many of the provisions in the new bill make the first cuts permanent. Some fiscal conservatives have said there are not enough new pro-growth provisions in the big bill to pay for the tax cuts. LaHood disagreed.

The Dunlap Republican representing Illinois’ 16th Congressional District said he believes Trump is the man to beat heading into the Iowa caucuses.

Most Republicans also rejected the effort to oust Speaker McCarthy including Rep. Mike Bost of Illinois’ 12th Congressional District, Rep. Darin LaHood of the 16th, and Rep. Mary Miller of the 15th district.
