15th Congressional District Primary
Illinois’ 15th congressional district is massive – larger, even, than the state of Maryland. It stretches north to Rantoul, south to the Kentucky border, and west to the east St. Louis suburbs.
This year, the district’s representative, John Shimkus (R) is retiring. Eight candidates — four Democrats and four Republicans — are vying to replace him.
Illinois Newsroom’s Jim Meadows talked with the candidates prior to the March 17th primary about everything from trade and agriculture to healing the political divide.

13th Congressional District Primary
The 13th congressional district in Illinois includes all or parts of Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, Springfield, and Bloomington-Normal and the suburbs of East St. Louis. Republican Rodney Davis has represented the district in the House since 2012, and he narrowly won reelection to the seat two years ago in a close race with Democratic challenger Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.
Londrigan is running again this year. But she has a challenger in the Democratic primary: social democrat Stefanie Smith. Illinois Newsroom’s Jim Meadows spoke with Londrigan and Smith ahead of the upcoming March 17th primary about issues ranging from health care to agriculture and trade.
