Champaign Unit 4 Schools Superintendent Susan Zola wrote in a message to families last Friday that the district will continue to ensure students have access to meals and learning materials while at home. The message came shortly after Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced that pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade schools statewide would remain closed through the end of the school year.
Zola says remote learning will continue and so will the district’s food distribution program. She says the district has given out roughly 1,900 Chromebooks to families. Zola says they’ve also created a repair program for Chromebooks, and a technology helpline for students and families with technical questions about the devices.
She says families can also access WiFi by parking near several hotspots located throughout town. And the University of Illinois has deployed a handful of WiFi equipped buses to serve as hotspots across Champaign-Urbana.
Zola says this isn’t how she wanted to end the school year. But she says she’s been inspired by all the creative ways the community has found to continue serving students.
