Both Urbana and Champaign are looking to help residents dispose of their holiday trees.
In Champaign, holiday trees can be picked up this Monday, Jan. 13. Residents should place their trees within four feet of the curb by 6:00 a.m. that morning.
The holiday tree collection program is free for everyone who has residential property in the city.
The city will break down the collected trees into small pieces and use them to make garden mulch. Champaign residents will not have their trees collected if they have stands, decorations, lights or other materials on them.
Next week in Urbana from Jan. 12 to Jan. 16, the city’s Public Works Department will also collect trees on residents’ U-Cycle route collection day.
Urbana residents are being asked to place their trees on the curb the night before their collection day. Residents should remove anything attached to the tree, like decorations, ornaments, lights, or garlands.
