NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. — Preparations are underway for funeral arrangements for a slain sheriff’s deputy from Newton County, Indiana, who was shot in the line of duty earlier this month.
In a recent update, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said that the body of Corporal Brandon Schreiber will be escorted Thursday morning from Springfield.
Schreiber was shot by a suspect on September 1 while assisting the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department in Illinois during a police chase that ended in Sheldon, according to Illinois State Police.
The suspect identified as Andrew Roselius, 37 of Clifton, Ill. was pronounced dead after an exchange of gunfire.
The sheriff’s office previously stated that Schreiber is an organ donor. He was initially taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital but was then admitted to the Carle Trauma Center in Urbana, where he was in critical condition.
The final arrangements will be announced at a later date, according to the sheriff’s office.
