WEATHER ALERT: Severe storms expected late this afternoon and evening

Forecast: Snow and falling temperatures return

Meteorologists in Central Illinois are watching winter weather systems that have brought snow and extremely cold temperatures to the area. Check here for the latest from the National Weather Service in Lincoln and IPM News meteorologist Andrew Pritchard. This post will be updated at various times.


The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Thursday at 6:00 p.m.-Friday at noon. Total snow accumulations 1-3 inches with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour will cause blowing and drifting. Wind chills on Friday morning could fall as low as 20 degrees below zero. The advisory includes Cass, Champaign, DeWitt, Macon, McLean, Piatt, and Vermilion Counties.

Here is your IPM News Forecast from Meteorologist Andrew Pritchard:

  • Thursday: cloudy with a chance of flurries and a high of 31 degrees. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Tonight: cloudy with snow likely and a low of 9 degrees. Snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday: partly cloudy and windy with a high of 13 degrees. Northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, gusting to 35 mph.
  • Friday night: mostly cloudy with a low of 1 degree. Northwest wind 5 mph.
  • Saturday: sunny with a high of 14 degrees. Northwest wind 10 mph.
