Winter storm closings and cancellations

Heavy snow forecasted for central Illinois beginning Tuesday night has led to many closings and cancellations.

URBANA — Many cities, schools and other organizations are announcing closings and cancellations because of heavy snow in central Illinois. We will include as many of them as possible in this article, organized by location.

The following closures are for Friday, February 4:

  • University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign – All classes online Fri. 2/4. All employees who can work remotely should plan to do so, with unit approval.
  • Champaign Unit 4 Schools – Closed Fri. 2/4. No e-learning is scheduled.
  • Parkland College – Closed Fri. 2/4. All classes, programs and services are canceled. All college offices will also be closed.
  • Champaign City Building – Closed Fri. 2/4. However, City staff will be available remotely to answer phones and provide customer service during regular business hours.
  • Champaign Public Library and Douglass Branch – Closed Fri. 2/4. All virtual events will happen as scheduled.
  • Urbana City Offices – Closed Fri. 2/4. This includes the Urbana City Building, Public Works Building, Landscape Recycling Center, and Urbana Free Library.
  • Urbana Park District – All programs canceled and facilities closed Fri. 2/4.
  • Krannert Art Museum – Closed Fri. 2/4
  • Champaign-Urbana Public Health District – Closed Fri. 2/4. This includes locations in Champaign, Rantoul and Watseka.
  • Rantoul Public Library – Closed Fri. 2/4.

Vermilion County

  • Danville District 118 – Fri. 2/4 will be an e-learning day.
  • Danville Schlarman Academy – Closed Fri. 2/4.
  • Vermilion County – All county buildings including the courthouse will be closed Fri. 2/4.
  • Vermilion Advantage – Office closed Fri. 2/4. Staff are working remotely and can be reached by email.
  • Danville Mass Transit – No service Fri. 2/4. Snow routes in effect on Sat. 2/5.
  • Danville Area Community College – Closed Fri. 2/4. The COVID testing center at DACC is also closed Fri. 2/4.

Macon County

  • Decatur Public Schools – Fri. 2/4 is an e-learning day.
  • Decatur Area Arts Council – Closed Fri. 2/4. The First Friday Gallery Walk has been rescheduled for Fri. 2/11.

Piatt County

  • Monticello CUSD #25 – Closed Fri. 2/4. A decision on after-school activities will be made by 10am Fri. and posted at www.sages.us.

DeWitt County

  • Clinton CUSD 15 – Closed Fri. 2/4.

The following closures are for Thursday, February 3:

Champaign County

  • University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign – All classes online Thu. 2/3 and Fri. 2/4. All employees who can work remotely should plan to do so, with unit approval.
  • Champaign Unit 4 Schools – Closed Thu. 2/3. No e-learning is scheduled.
  • Urbana School District 116 – Closed Thu. 2/3. No e-learning is scheduled. 
  • Rantoul City Schools –  Thu. 2/3 will be a traditional snow day.
  • Parkland College – Closed Thu. 2/3. All classes, programs and services are canceled. All college offices will also be closed. A decision about Fri. 2/4 will be made by 3pm Thu.
  • Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District – Champaign County Area Rural Transit Service will not operate Thu. 2/3. Some MTD buses in Champaign-Urbana will be rerouted because of poor road conditions. Check the MTD website for the latest route information.
  • Carle Clinic locations in Champaign, Urbana, Mahomet and Rantoul – All virtual care on Thu. 2/3. Convenient Care Plus location in Urbana will remain open for urgent needs. Drive-thru COVID testing in Champaign also closed.
  • OSF Heart of St. Mary, Urbana – Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation and community fitness closed on Thu. 2/3.
  • City of Champaign Township office – Closed Thu. 2/3
  • Champaign City Building – Closed Thu. 2/3. However, City staff will be available remotely to answer phones and provide customer service during regular business hours.
  • Champaign Public Library and Douglass Branch – Closed Thu. 2/3. All virtual events will happen as scheduled.
  • Champaign County Courthouse and Sheriff’s Administrative office – Closed Thu. 2/3
  • Urbana City Offices – Closed Thu. 2/3 & Fri. 2/4. This includes the Urbana City Building, Public Works Building, Landscape Recycling Center, and Urbana Free Library.
  • Urbana U-Cycle – Collections Thu. 2/3 and Fri. 2/4 each delayed by one day.
  • Urbana Park District – All programs canceled and facilities closed Thu. 2/3.
  • Champaign-Urbana Public Health District – Closed Thu. 2/3. This includes locations in Champaign, Rantoul and Watseka.
  • Champaign County Forest Preserve District – All forest preserves closed Thu. 2/3. This includes Homer Lake, Lake of the Woods, Middle Fork River, River Bend, Heron View and Sangamon River Forest Preserves.
  • Faith United Methodist Church, Champaign – No in-person events Thu. 2/3. Studies and morning meetings scheduled to be done via Zoom, will still be held.
  • University YMCA, Champaign – Building closed until Mon. 2/7. The Friday Forum event this week is online only.
  • C-U at Home’s Phoenix Daytime Drop-in Center, Champaign – Extended hours Thu. 2/3 8am-5pm.
  • Rantoul Public Library – Closed  Thu. 2/3.
  • Krannert Art Museum, Champaign – Closed Thu. 2/3.

Vermilion County

  • Danville Mass Transit – No service Thu. 2/3. A decision on service for Fri. 2/4 will be made closer to that time.
  • Danville District 118 – Closed Thu. 2/3. There will be no school for students or staff. The district may use an e-learning day on Fri. 2/4. That decision will be made by Thursday afternoon.
  • Schlarman Academy, Danville – Classes, practices & extracurricular activities canceled Fri. 2/4.
  • Danville Area Community College – Closed Thu. 2/3. Offices will be closed, and all classes, programs, and activities are canceled.
  • Carle Clinic locations in Danville – All virtual care on Thu. 2/3. Drive-thru COVID testing also closed. Convenient Care Plus in Danville will be open for urgent needs.
  • OSF Health, Danville – Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation and community fitness at OSF Sacred Heart closed Thu. 2/3.
  • Vermilion County – All county offices are closed Thu. 2/3.
  • City of Danville – All city buildings closed Thu. 2/3. Solid waste collection for Wed. and Thu. will be postponed by two days each to Fri. and Sat.

Macon County

  • Decatur Public Schools – Thurs. 2/3 and Fri. 2/4 are e-learning days. All athletics, extra-curricular activities, and the Extended Day program are canceled.
  • Macon County Health Department – Closed Thu. 2/3. Vaccination clinics scheduled for 2/3 have been rescheduled for Wed. 2/9.
  • VA Illinana Outpatient Clinic, Decatur – Closed Thu. 2/3.

Coles County

  • Carle Clinic locations in Mattoon – All virtual care on Thu. 2/3. Drive-thru COVID testing also closed. Convenient Care Plus in Mattoon open for urgent needs.
  • VA Illiana Outpatient Clinic, Mattoon – Closed Thu. 2/3.

Piatt County

  • Allerton Park and Retreat Center – Closed Thu. 2/3.
  • Monticello CUSD 25, class canceled Fri. 2/4 for a Snow Day.  A decision on after-school activities will be made by Friday 10 AM.

DeWitt County

  • Clinton CUSD 15 – Closed Thu. 2/3 & Fri. 2/4 (Snow Day declared).

The below closings were for Wednesday, February 2:

Champaign County

  • University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign – All classes online Wed. 2/2, Thu. 2/3 and Fri. 2/4. All employees who can work remotely should plan to do so, with unit approval.
  • Champaign Unit 4 Schools – Remote learning day Wed. 2/2. The district will enact full “snow days” for the remainder of the week if necessary. Those decisions will be made on a day-by-day basis.
  • Urbana School District 116 – Remote learning day Wed. 2/2.
  • Rantoul City Schools – Remote learning day Wed. 2/2. Thursday 2/3 will be a traditional snow day.
  • Parkland College – Closed Wed. 2/2. All classes, programs and services are canceled. All college offices will also be closed. A decision about Thu. 2/3 will be made by 3pm Wed.
  • St. Joseph, St. Joseph-Ogden, and Prairieview-Ogden Schools – Remote learning day Wed. 2/2
  • OSF Heart of St. Mary, Urbana – Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation and community fitness closed on Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3.

  • Rantoul Public Library – Closing at 8pm Tues. 2/1. Will be closed Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3.
  • Krannert Art Museum – Closed Wed. 2/2.
  • Virginia Theater – Closed Wed. 2/2. The scheduled screening of “Groundhog Day” has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
  • The Salvation Army offices and food pantry in Champaign – Closed Wed. 2/2. The C-U Canteen will be available for emergency food delivery to local shelters and to the homeless while the roads remain open.

Vermilion County

  • Danville Mass Transit – No service Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3. A decision on service for Fri. 2/4 will be made closer to that time.
  • Danville District 118 – Closed Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3. There will be no school for students or staff. The district may use an e-learning day on Fri. 2/4. That decision will be made by Thursday afternoon.
  • OSF Health, Danville – OnCall Urgent Care on N. Logan closed Wed. 2/2. Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation and community fitness at OSF Sacred Heart closed Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3.
  • Danville Area Community College – Closed Wed. 2/2. All classes, programs and activities are canceled, and all offices are closed.
  • Vermilion County – All county offices are closed Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3.

  • Lakeland College – Closed Wed. 2/2.
  • Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 – Remote learning Wed. 2/2, Thu. 2/3 and Fri. 2/4. All practices, events, and extracurricular activities for those days will be postponed. 

Piatt County

  • Monticello CUSD #25 – Closed Wed. 2/2 and Thu. 2/3. Students will have e-learning both days.

DeWitt County

  • Clinton CUSD 15 – Snow day Wed. 2/2.

Sangamon County

  • Springfield District 186 – Closed Wed. 2/2.
