Violence kills Champaign teen; large fight in Urbana results in two arrests

CHAMPAIGN – The weekend in central Illinois started with the gunning down of a teenager in Champaign. And two people are under arrest after a large brawl involving 50-60 people in Urbana.

Deadly shooting in Champaign

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive just after midnight on Saturday, June 6.

They found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Multiple rounds fired also damaged nearby properties.

Champaign police are still looking for the shooter and motive and they encourage anyone with information to call 217-351-4545 or contact Crime Stoppers to submit a tip anonymously.

Arrests after large fight in Urbana

Two people are under arrest after reports of a large brawl in Urbana.

Police were called to the 2000 block of South Philo Road on Friday, June 5, around 10:00 p.m. Officers responded to reports of 50-60 people fighting and possible gunfire.

No one was struck by gunfire. But shell cases were recovered at the scene.

Police arrested 42-year-old man and 33-year-old woman from Urbana. They are charged with several felonies including aggravated battery.
