Urbana City Council appoints interim fire chief

URBANA
— Urbana City Council has selected and interim fire chief. 

Tal Prendergast is a native of the city and an and Urbana High School graduate.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Technical Systems Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, according to a news release from the City of Urbana.

Prendergast has served the Urbana Fire Department for 17 years and the Danville Fire Department for five years. He also spent 22 years with the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute. 

Former Urbana Fire Chief Kent “Demond” Dade resigned from the position in October.

The appointment was approved by city council during a special meeting Monday night.  Prendergast’s term is expected to end on or before June 5, 2026.
