CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for the person who fatally shot a 16-year-old boy in the parking lot of Marketplace Mall.
Officers responded to a fight outside the Dick’s House of Sport store Saturday around 6:14 p.m., according to a news release. Police say during the fight, the teenager was struck after at least one individual discharged a firearm.
The Champaign County Coroner identified the victim as Jaylen Bailey of Champaign. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
No arrests in the case have been made so far. Both the Champaign Police Department and Champaign County Coroner are investigating the death.
