llinois has won its last six matchups with Wisconsin. That represents the Illini’s longest winning streak in the series since beating the Badgers 16 straight times from 1981-89. Domask went to high school about 60 miles northeast of Madison in Waupun, Wisconsin, and had 200-300 people in the stands cheering him on.

Minnesota led 63-62 with 14:15 left, but a jumper by Shannon put Illinois ahead for good.

Illinois won its 1,000th game in Big Ten play. A charter member of the conference, Illinois is 1,000-757 in the Big Ten in 119 seasons.

Marcus Domask had 19 points for the Illinois, putting him over 2,000 points for his career, including four seasons at Southern Illinois.

Coleman Hawkins had 17 points and five assists for the Illini, Marcus Domask had 13 points and Quincy Guerrier had 10 points and seven rebounds in a game where most of Illinois’ starters were on the bench for the final 9:29.

Marcus Domask then split a pair of free throws with 3 seconds remaining, tying it at 73. Coleman Hawkins led 17-5 Illinois with 20 points.

The Fighting Illini stretched their lead to 16 points in the second half. Dain Dainja contributed seven points and five rebounds on 3-of-5 shooting.

Neither team mounted any big runs in regulation, but Northwestern made a big push in OT.

Illinois says in a statement that Shannon will be available to participate in practices and games.
