CHAMPAIGN — After a long year with virtually no live, indoor music performances, we’re beginning to see a few green shoots of hope this spring.

Next week, musicians from Sinfonia da Camera are holding three chamber music performances at University Place Christian Church at 403 S. Wright St in Champaign. They are scheduled for Monday March 29, Tuesday March 30, and Thursday April 1, all at 7:30pm.

Illinois Newsroom’s Brian Moline spoke with Sinfonia’s music director and conductor, Ian Hobson, about these performances, which are the group’s first since last fall.

Listen to this interview here.

“The first series was at Allerton Barn,” Hobson said. “It was a little bit chilly in October when we did this, but it was well attended and well received.”

Hobson says University Place will be a great venue for next week’s performances.

“We have been rehearsing there, and all of the musicians said that this is a wonderful place to be,” he said. “So, we spoke to the pastor and arranged for this series of performances next week.”

He says the response from the community to these performances has been wonderful.

“It’s nothing less than I would expect,” Hobson said. “It’s not saying that what we’re putting on is so miraculous, but what it is saying is that people are craving live music.”

As of Friday morning, the performances scheduled for Monday and Thursday are full, but there are a few seats remaining for Tuesday’s performance. You can get details here.
