As the nation adjusts to the idea of another Trump presidency, prominent politicians from Illinois are also reacting to the election results. With a win in the key swing states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.

Governor J.B. Pritzker criticized the last time Donald Trump was in office, but reassured Illinoisans that the state will remain “a place of stability and competent governance” in an X post.

Senator Dick Durbin released a statement thanking Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz “for running a campaign filled with hope, joy, and possibility.”

“While the Administration will change in January, my belief in the promise of this country never will,” he added.

“I promise to work with all of my strength each day in the Senate to look out for the most vulnerable among us, to ensure liberty and equality for every person, and to uphold the rule of law and the bedrocks of our democracy.”

Senator Tammy Duckworth also praised Harris for her campaign and for accepting the election results.

“I also sympathize with the millions of Americans who are distraught by the knowledge that Donald Trump will soon be President once again,” she added in a statement.

“To each of you, please know that I am as dedicated today as I’ve ever been to doing absolutely everything in my power as a United States Senator to defend our rights and our freedoms. Because if there’s one thing I know, it’s that my buddies and I didn’t sign up to defend our democracy in warzones thousands of miles away only to watch it crumble in hallowed halls back at home.”

Republican lawmakers from Illinois are optimistic and excited about Trump serving as president again.

Congresswoman Mary Miller congratulated him in an X post and said she is looking forward to working with the Trump administration.

Congressman Mike Bost also congratulated Trump and President-Elect JD Vance.

“Donald J. Trump has completed a political comeback for the ages. After being written off by the beltway pundits and pollsters, he connected with the American people like no other candidate could and earned the first non-consecutive presidential terms in over 130 years,” he added in a statement.

“The American people are desperate for fearless leadership, secure borders, a strong economy, and an end to the woke nonsense. I’m confident that President-Elect Donald Trump will deliver on all fronts.”
