Police: teen arrested for shooting death of Urbana teen

Urbana police found a 16-year-old boy shot in the head at an unit at the Prairie Glen Apartments. The victim later died at the hospital.

URBANA – Police announced over the weekend that they arrested a 14-year-old in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Urbana.

Early Wednesday morning, police say the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head in an apartment unit in the 2400 block of Prairie Green Drive in Urbana.

The Champaign County Coroner identified the victim as 16-year-old Montrell Emery. He later died after being transported to the hospital.

Urbana police say the 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the 2600 block of East Washington early Saturday morning. There’s still no word on a motive.

 


URBANA – Urbana Police and the Illinois State Police are investigating the killing of a 16-year-old boy.

Officers responded to a unit at the Prairie Green Apartments late Tuesday night.

They found the teenager with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim later died at Carle Hospital.

The victim’s name has not been made public.

Police say this is a homicide case but have not released a motive or details of a suspect.

Officers believe this was not a random act of violence.
