New Deputy Police Chief appointed in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN– A new Deputy Chief of Police has been appointed to serve in the Champaign Police Department. 

Gregory Manzana has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Operations. He will oversee the Department’s Uniform Patrol Division and specialized units including the Crisis Intervention Team, SWAT, Field Training, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, and K-9 Units, according to an announcement from the department.

 

Manzana has held the ranks of Lieutenant, Sergeant, and Patrol Officer. He has also served as a member of the department’s SWAT Team, the Field Training Unit, the High-Tech Crime Unit, and in the Champaign Police Honor Guard.
 
He has an Associate of Arts Degree from Parkland College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois, and attended the Northwestern University Executive Management Program as well as the School of Staff and Command, where he received the Franklin M. Kreml Leadership Award.
 
Manzana starts his new role on January 13. The appointment comes after former Deputy Chief Geoff Coon retired last week.
