CHAMPAIGN, ILL.The Fighting Illini Softball hosted their second home game of the season with a 6-4 win against the Indiana State Sycamores.

Indiana State: Indiana State got off to a great start early in the game, scoring two runs in the fourth inning. The team’s consistent hits on the ball created opportunities for Indiana State to remain competitive opponents.

Illinois: After a slow start, Illinois was able to find a way to get their players on base. Although the team was being out-batted, the Illini made the most of their time at bat, getting on bases and putting them in position to score.

Entering the bottom of the 4th, Illinois was down by two runs. With two hits resulting in a single and Adisyn Caryl getting hit by a pitch, this set up a prime opportunity to shift the momentum in the game. Illinois catcher Paige Berkmeyer stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam to give Illinois the lead 4-2.

Key Stat

The grand slam gave Berkmeyer her 11th RBI this season, ranking her as the third most RBIs so for this season for the Illini.
