Illinois comes up short in the Big Ten tournament against Nebraska, losing 74 – 70

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — The Fighting Illini Women’s Basketball fell short to Nebraska and got eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament. After a late surge by the Cornhuskers, the Illini was not able to stay on top, losing 74 to 70.

Takeaways

Nebraska: The Cornhuskers found a way to get themselves into the game despite being down by nine points early in the game. Guard Britt Prince led the team in scoring with 17 points and helped Nebraska overcome the late deficit they were in. 

Illinois: Illinois had control for the majority of this game. Kendall Bostic scored 19 points, which helped Illinois get into an early lead in the first half. Adalia Mckenize came out and helped Illinois in the third quarter with 16 points in this game. Genesis Bryant scored 20 points to help get Illinois the win, but the Illini could not get it done. 

Key moment:

In the 4th quarter, Nebraska started off scoring seven straight points, bringing them back into the game. As the game progressed, the Cornhuskers continued to ride their momentum and ended the game with a 13 to three run clinching them the win. 

Key stat:

Illinois was unable to score a single field goal in the last five minutes of the game. This allowed Nebraksa to take the lead and take the lead with less than a minute left in the game.

Illinois will look to see if they will be selected into the March Madness tournament. The Selection Show will take place on March 16th at 7 p.m.
