Heat and storms continue through the weekend

A Flood Watch is in effect for Champaign County and surrounding portions of central Illinois through Sunday at 7pm.

From IPM meteorologist Andrew Pritchard: A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for Champaign County and surrounding portions of central Illinois through Sunday afternoon. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are anticipated this afternoon through the late night period. Rainfall rates may exceed 1-2″/hr, and a few locations may receive up to 2-4″ of additional rainfall.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Central Illinois has issued a Heat Advisory until Sunday 7:00 p.m. Champaign, Christian, Coles, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, and Vermilion Counties are included in the advisory. Heat index values (the combine temperature and high humidity) may reach 105 degrees.
