Diab, a Glen Ellyn native, posted scores of 14.500 and 14.900 (29.400) and placed first on still rings, an event where he was a two-time National Champion (2018, 2019) and the program’s only four-time Big Ten Champion (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
He will now train and travel with the team, ready to step in should an injury arise.
Diab was a six-time NCAA All-American, a three-time All-Big Ten First Team selection and holds the school record with 31 career still rings titles.Â
The Summer Olympics will begin on Friday, July 23 and commence on Sunday, August 8. Gymnastics will take place from July 25 to Aug. 3.
