DANVILLE — Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. announced he’s running for reelection as he plans to seek another term next year.
Williams was named acting mayor of Danville in 2018. He was elected in 2019 and reelected in 2023.
“I’ve had no greater honor than being your mayor, and I’m incredibly proud of everything my team and I have done to make Danville a better place to live, work, invest and play,” he said in a video posted to Facebook.
Several other candidates are challenging Williams. The list includes local Reverend Frank McCullough, Danville police officer Dennis Witsman, and Ward 4 Alderwoman Tricia Teague and Ward 7 Alderman Doug Ahrens.
If five candidates qualify to be on the ballot, the city will hold a primary election in February next year.
Otherwise, the general election for Mayor of Danville and other local races is set for April in 2027.
