DANVILLE – The City of Danville has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program.

This grant will be used in launching a new program, Community Roots: Danville’s Urban Reforestation and Revitalization Plan.

“This initiative is designed to enhance tree canopy coverage in economically disadvantaged
neighborhoods, develop comprehensive maintenance plans, create a detailed tree inventory map, and establish educational programs that highlight the essential role trees play in our community’s well-being,” the city said in a news release

The City of Danville will be hosting an Arbor Day celebration at the Danville Public Library on Saturday, October 19, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in collaboration with Trees for Danville.

Activities include sapling giveaways, tree care guide distributions, tree planting demonstrations,
and contests.
