Champaign County To Move Three Polling Places Out Of Long-Term Care Facilities

Campaign signs compete for the attention of early voters at the main entrance to the Champaign County Brookens Center in Urbana.

Champaign County is moving three of its primary election polling places out of long-term care facilities to other locations, out of concern about the coronavirus.

Angie Patton, chief deputy with the Champaign County Clerk’s office, says her office made the decision after conferring with officials at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District. But she emphasized that no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the county, as of Wednesday, March 11.

The Cunningham-14 precinct polling place in Urbana that was set for Tuesday’s primary election at Clark-Lindsey Village will be moved to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 2200 S. Philo Rd.

The Mahomet-2 precinct polling place in Mahomet will be moved from the Glenwood Assisted Living facility to the Elk’s Pavilion, 301 Senna Drive within Lake of the Woods Park, 109 S. Lake of the Woods Rd.

And in Rantoul, voters in the Rantoul-2 precinct, who would have gone to the Eagle View Retirement Home, will instead go to the Gathering Place at the First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Century Blvd.

In the meantime, the Champaign County Clerk’s office encourages voters to make use of the early voting and vote-by-mail options. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is Thursday, March 11. Early voting continues at ten locations around Champaign County until Monday, the day before the March 17th primary election.
