Central Illinois under a Wind Advisory Monday 8am-midnight

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect Monday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight tonight. Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts over 45 mph are expected. Champaign, Coles, De Witt, Douglas, Macon, Piatt, Sangamon, and Vermilion Counties are all included in the advisory. Meteorologists warn winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Pritzker heads to California

Capitol News Illinois reports Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) will take Illinois’ film industry tax credits on the road this week, highlighting the incentives in meetings with Hollywood film and production executives. The Illinois Film Production Service Tax Credit was extended in 2022 and provides tax credits for labor and production expenses through 2032. The trip will also include meetings with tech leaders in the San Francisco area, where Pritzker is expected to highlight the state’s investments in quantum computing and manufacturing. The governor’s office says film industry tax incentives have sparked hundreds of millions of dollars in spending on productions based in Illinois since 2017.

Barn collapse kills 1 man, injures another in southern Illinois

WATERLOO, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say one man has been killed and another injured in southern Illinois after a barn partially collapsed into a burn pit and caught fire. Monroe County Coroner Bob Hill says a man called 911 at 9:35 a.m. Saturday and said a dilapidated barn outside Waterloo that was being torn down had collapsed on his two co-workers. Hill says a deputy coroner pronounced a 58-year-old man from Wildwood, Missouri, dead at the scene. The man’s name hasn’t been released. Hill says another man was transported by ambulance to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Fighting Illini basketball and men’s gymnastics teams advance

The fighting Illini men’s basketball team plays Iowa State Thursday in Boston after beating the Duquesne Dukes on Saturday, 89-63. U-Conn beat the Northwestern men’s basketball team, 75-58. The fighting Illini women’s basketball team plays Tulsa on Thursday after beating Stonybrook on Sunday, 79-62. 

Another Big Ten moment for the fighting Illini. The men’s gymnastics team clinched at least a share of the regular-season Big Ten title win over Penn State on Saturday. This marks the first time Illinois has won the Big Ten in the regular season since the title’s inception in 2016. Next up for them, the Big Ten Championships at the State Farm Center on April 5 and 6.
