Wet workweek ahead

The National Weather Service in Central Illinois is forecasting storms on Sunday night and Monday. Meteorologists expect more active weather later in the week.

Illini football players selected in the NFL Draft

CHAMPAIGN – Former Illinois football players Johnny Newton, Isaiah Adams, Tip Reiman, and Casey Washington were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Newton was selected in the 2nd round to the Washington Commanders, Adams and Reiman went to the Arizona Cardinals, and Casey Washington went to the Atlanta Falcons. Along with the 4 draftees, many former Illini are seeking to become undrafted free agents. Former Illini Defensive Tackle Keith Randolph Jr. has already been signed to stay in Illinois with the Chicago Bears. – Colin Hislope/IPM News

Dorsey and Marcos win 2024 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon

CHAMPAIGN – Another Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend is in the books. Race organizers say more than 10,000 people registered to run in the races which included a 10K, marathon, and half marathon events. Alexis Dorsey of Champaign was first in the women’s marathon with a time of 2:57:58. Jaime Marcos of Charleston was victorious in the men’s marathon, clocking in at 2:29:46. In the wheelchair, half marathon race: Susannah Scaroni took first place overall with a time of 50:08. In the men’s division, Noah Eckelberg won the top spot with a time of 1:00:07. – Reginald Hardwick/IPM News

3 children in minivan hurt when it rolled down hill, into baseball dugout wall 

WOODSTOCK — Three children were hurt when the minivan they were in rolled down a hill into a concrete baseball dugout in northern Illinois’ Woodstock. The children, ages 12 and 13, were hospitalized with mild to moderate injuries. Police say they were among four children in the parked minivan which is believed to have been accidentally slipped into drive while the radio was being adjusted Saturday morning. A baseball game was being played in Emricson Park when the minivan hit the rear of the dugout. None of the nearly dozen teenage ball players inside the dugout were injured. The parents of the children in the minivan were watching the game. – Associated Press

State Senator Rose says the U of I favors its Chicago campus over Urbana when allocating state funds

State Senator Chapin Rose says the University of Illinois is not being fair to its flagship campus when it distributes state funds. Rose, who is a U of I Urbana alum, says his calculations show that the university is giving its Chicago campus more state money on a per-undergraduate basis than it gives to its Chicago campus: $10,073 per student at Chicago versus $7,483 per student at Urbana, for a difference of $2,590 per student in the Chicago campus’ favor.
