Wind chills were below zero Monday morning after a cold front passed through East Central Illinois Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has a wind advisory in effect until 3 p.m. Monday afternoon. Meteorologist Andrew Pritchard said wind chills will drop 5 to 10 degrees below zero at times, with northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph gusting up to 50 mph.
The harsh winds can blow around unsecured objects, knock down tree limbs, cause power outages and make driving difficult.
The cold weather comes as storms passed through Central Illinois Sunday.
According to the NWS, a tornado touched down in Macon County during yesterday’s storms. Pritchard said the tornado caused some damage in the Decatur area.
Yesterday’s severe weather also caused power outages across Illinois. As of 8:39 a.m. on Monday, Ameren Illinois reports there are more than 800 customers without service — and 25 without power in Champaign-Urbana.
