Danville School District 118 administrators said the anonymous threat that occurred Monday was unrelated to a student social media post that also raised concerns.

The district said it received an anonymous call issuing a threat to an unidentified school building on Monday. Administrators say the call originated from Chicago and “was not substantiated.”

The district send a notice to families Friday indicating the “perceived threat” from a student’s post “was not credible” and separate from the threat issued on Monday. The district said it the post resurfaced on Wednesday.

“We understand the emotional toll this situation has taken, and your patience and cooperation are appreciated,” District Superintendent John Hart wrote.

ORIGINAL STORY: Danville School District 118 said classes would resume Tuesday after it dismissed all schools Monday because of an anonymous threat.

In a letter emailed to parents Monday afternoon, the district said that “At this time, there is no confirmed danger on any of our campuses.”

The letter also states that a police presence will be available throughout the day at all schools and counseling and support services are available if students or staff members need it.

The district posted on its website that dismissals began at 8:45 a.m. on Monday.Children whose parents were not home were brought to the Civic Center on 100 West Main Street to be reunited.

Police are currently investigating the incident, according to the district. In November 2022, Urbana Schools closed after receiving a threat. No students were harmed. A Chicago area teenager was later arrested for calling in the threat.
