Urbana intersection reopens after crash involving deputy

URBANA – The intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Florida Avenue in Urbana has reopened after being closed for several hours Thursday morning as police investigated a crash involving a Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy.

According to the Urbana Police Department, the deputy was involved in a two-vehicle crash Thursday at 4:14 a.m. The officer is in the hospital in stable condition.

The crash involved the deputy’s vehicle and a tow truck, police said.  No information regarding the driver of the truck has been reported yet.

Fencing from a nearby sports field was broken and lots of debris could be seen on the street.

Urbana police are still investigating the collision and “the specific details surrounding” it. Police also said that no additional information will be released at this time.
