Today’s headlines:

  • Most states, including Illinois, are behind 2020 youth voter registration.
  • After a battle for recognition by the U.S. Census, “Middle Eastern North African” was added as a category earlier this year. But now, some are concerned the Census might become a tool to target the MENA community.
  • Illinois voters are weighing in through an advisory referendum on whether more health insurers should cover fertility treatments including IVF.
  • The Fighting Illini football team is no longer perfect at home this season.

In today’s deep dive, we’ll learn about a referendum on the ballots of six counties in southwest Illinois that will ask if county boards should discuss forming a new state separate from Chicago.
