Danville District 118 schools transition to E-learning day after report of threat

Police

DANVILLE -A report of a threat on social media led Danville School District 118 to transition to an E-learning day Wednesday.

The school district made the announcement early Wednesday morning and said that all district buildings and schools will be closed for the day, so police can investigate.

Danville Police detectives located a social media address that was found to be linked to the Chicago area and from which the posts were made. Police said they believe the subject who shared the posts and threat information is not in Danville and that the posts do not pose a direct threat.

“Through a threat assessment, police believe the risk indicators in this incident are low and non-credible,” Danville Police Deputy Chief Terry McCord said in a statement. “There have been no direct engaging threats that are believed valid.”

McCord also said police will continue to investigate and follow up on this incident and work with the school district to “reduce the incident and fear of crime while ensuring safety and security.”
