Storms possible in East-Central Illinois tonight and overnight

Clouds hang low over rural Illinois.

TUESDAY SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: Residents of Champaign-Urbana and surrounding areas in east-central Illinois should be prepared for potential thunderstorms this evening and overnight.

Damaging wind gusts over 70 MPH will be possible, along with isolated tornadoes and hail. Repeated rounds of thunderstorms may also lead to rainfall totals over 3 to 5 inches in some areas. An isolated tornado or instance of hail over 1 inch in diameter can’t be ruled out according to IPM meteorologist Andrew Pritchard.
