The Fighting Illini Football team (3-3) earned their first conference win of the season after beating Michigan State (2-4) 38-37 in overtime. The Illini came out on top after battling the Spartans for the lead at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, MI.

On the very first play of overtime, Clayton found running back Aiden Laughery for a 25-yard game-winning touchdown to secure the win.
Michigan State: It was a roller coaster of an evening for the Spartans, Their defense struggled in the first half to contain the running game, causing the Spartans to stall on their offense on multiple occasions.
As the second half continued, Michigan State capitalized on Illinois’ mistakes to control the second half, going on a 24-to-7 run to tie the game with just over a minute left.
In overtime, it looked as though Michigan State could narrowly steal the game after they scored a touchdown and went for the two-point conversion. Illinois dropped back into coverage and left no options for the Spartans, giving Michigan State a loss at home.
Key Stat
Illinois senior receiver Hudson Clement had a season-high of six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. This was his first game since December 2024 with over 100 receiving yards in a game.
