Storms continue to move to the east but a Tornado Watch remains until 1:00 a.m. for much of east central Illinois.

The National Weather Service in Central Illinois has issued a Tornado Watch from now until Friday at 1:00 a.m. CT for Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, and Vermilion Counties.

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin until 9 PM CDT. Champaign County is not included.

Strong to severe storms are moving out of central Illinois after prompting several tornado warnings on Wednesday night. Meteorologists expect the storms to return on Thursday evening into the night. The National Weather Service in Central Illinois expects wind gusts of over 70 mph will accompany the strongest storms, and the tornado threat is highest on Thursday evening. Central Illinoisans are advised to keep their severe weather safety rules in mind. If there are any weather warnings here in Central Illinois, you’ll get them first on WILL AM 580, Illinois Classical FM 90.9 and Illinois Soul FM 101.1.

The National Weather Service has placed Champaign, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, Vermilion, and surrounding counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 tonight.
The biggest threats are from 70-mile-per hour gusts and large hail. A tornado is also possible.
The area of most concern tonight is North and west of Peoria.
Thursday’s outbreak will be in the evening. In both cases, wind gusts of over 70 mph will accompany the strongest storms, and the tornado threat is highest Thursday evening.
