URBANA– Violence in Urbana this weekend has claimed the lives of three people including a young child.
Darnell “D.J.” Wicks, 7 and Melvin Braxton, 43 were fatally wounded after being shot in the 900 block of Lanore Drive Saturday night, according to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
Urbana Police said occupants of the residence knew the individual suspected to be involved in the shooting and “do not believe it was a random act.” Police also said the incident appears to “be the result of a domestic violence situation”. No other information has been released in the case.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old died after a shooting on Friday night. Police found Sherman McCraney along Vawter Street with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to the hospital, where he died. Police did not share information on a possible motive or suspects in either shooting.
