217 Today: Young women in Indiana are leading the fight to protect reproductive rights in the red state

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

Today’s headlines:

  • One witness to Monday’s Highland Park parade shooting was marching in the event when she heard what she thought might be fireworks.
  • Governor JB Pritzker is calling gun violence a “uniquely American plague” after a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park that killed six people and wounded dozens more.
  • In a campaign video immediately after the Highland Park shooting, Republican candidate for governor Darren Bailey urged people to pray and then “move on” and celebrate the Fourth of July.
  • Custodians, assistant teachers and other support staff in the Champaign Unit 4 school district are all making at least $15 dollars an hour, starting this month.

In today’s deep dive, we’ll hear how young women are leading the charge to keep reproductive rights alive in the neighboring state of Indiana.
