Today’s headlines:

  • Governor J.B. Pritzker wants to increase Medicaid reimbursements to nursing homes in Illinois for the fourth time in recent years —something the state’s long-term care facility industry has been begging for. But, Illinois’ largest nursing home trade group has big objections to the plan.

  • Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White is urging children in grades four through 12 to participate in the 2022 “Letters About Literature in Illinois.”

  • A defense attorney from Illinois fears vigilantes will be emboldened by the not-guilty verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.

In today’s deep dive, we’ll head to Columbia, Missouri to see how they are trying to counter the continuing rise in opioid overdose deaths.
