Today’s headlines: 

  • The deadline has passed for Republican and Democratic candidates to submit nominating petitions to get on the ballot for next March’s primary.
  • The Governor’s office halted construction on Mayor Brandon Johnson’s plan to shelter asylum seekers on a former industrial lot in Brighton Park on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
  • An updated map from the U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests plants traditionally suited to warmer climates in decades past may now be able to grow in Central Illinois.
