217 Today: Loyola researcher clears up misinformation about the SAFE-T Act

Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Today’s headlines:

  • It’s still unclear what – if any – changes will be made to Illinois’ so-called “SAFE-T Act” before one of its major components takes effect.
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation has designated Interstate 74 as one of the state’s “alternative fuel corridors” to help people traveling with electric vehicles.
  • Danville High School was ready to open a family health clinic in its basement last spring, but that was delayed by almost a year.
  • The Urbana City Council gave their final approval last night to an eight-month delay in the opening deadline for the Hotel Royer.

In today’s deep dive, we’ll hear from a Loyola University researcher about the  SAFE-T Act, which will give judges more discretion about which people to keep in jail before their trials and eliminate cash bail in Illinois.
